Palma district in Cabo Delgado province holds the world’s third-largest natural gas reserves. As part of the development of the region, multinational Oil and Gas companies such as Anadarko have a social responsibility to support local communities as the industry develops. One of these initiatives has been to provide modern energy sources to households in the region. Greenlight provided a thorough assessment of local household energy use dynamics in several communities of Palma district. The data was further utilized to forecast the peak load energy requirements of a community currently not connected to the grid. Two models for solar electrification were presented as viable options:
(1) Autonomous home systems
(2) Mini-grid system. Technical assistance in the form of equipment requirements and installation procedures were also provided.
